History

Back in feudal Japan, at the times of great samurai, a provintial leader was overthrown and murdered by a young tyrant. By way of honour the samurai of the murdered lord should have committed suicide. All did, except for 47. They became outlaws, and drifters (Ronin), for a whole year while they planned their masters revenge. One night they stormed the castle where the tyrant lay sleeping and killed him along with an army of unsuspecting samurai.

Hundreds of years later, a team of such men form up on the rugby pitch to show the same spirit they showed. Playing a unique brand of rugby, these new mercenaries now play rugby.

They are now truely ronin.

The Ronin Badge

Designed by Rob Kama @ Amen Designs.

As history depicts, the RONIN were Samurai who had turned Mercenaries, Hired Assassin's - who although were with out a master to rule them - still religiously stuck to the old code of honour, discipline & loyalty.

Background:

The idea behind the logo was to take the Yin and Yang (the symbol of balance i.e. good and evil, positive and negative) and mix in Pacific Island style Art.

Yin:

THE OCEAN: This symbolizes THE TEAM structure i.e. a team of individuals drawn together from different parts of the country / world, with different cultures and rugby backgrounds, which have come together under the banner of Rugby (which is denoted by the rugby ball on the crest of the wave)

Yang:

MOKO: The swirls of the moko symbolize the spirit of South Pacific Islands and as a reminder that RONIN IMPACT had as all teams do, had a humble beginning i.e. The FULFORD IMPALA's, An Army Regiment team under the Royal Signals in York which had "recruited" a team made up predominantly of Fijians to participate in the Pocklington 7's. The style, flare and spirit in which they played (winning the tournament back to back for 4 years) soon gave birth to the idea of forming a team that wasn't managed under the Army but as RONIN - without a master (although Fiji time will always be Fiji time).

So the moko is the balance that keeps the team grounded... In the true spirit of sevens players: Win, Lose or Draw enjoy the fellowship, enjoy the moment, and in doing so you'll find that each tournament is but a platform to better yourself as individuals and as a team.

The Ronin WARRIORS team were unofficialy added to the Ronin stable in season 2009 when they competed at the manchester 7s in both the open and invitational event at the same time and succesfully winning the open cup. The team then went on to win the plate at the Guisborough 7s and here in the ronin academy team , "Warriors" were born.

Knowing the way sevens rugby and tournament rugby as a whole has developed over the years as a club we knew that in order to not fall by the wayside as many teams do through the aging of a set pool of players we needed to introduce an academy side to bring on and blodd fresh new talent.

The Ronin warriors fitted the bill and now as an official arm of the Ronin franchise for 2010, the Ronin Warriors coached by Ledua Camasoko, play in a set season along side the main side. The team has a base squad which is founded on a band of brothers from the 2 yorks regiment but operates an open door policy. the foundations of the team are friendship, fun and good rugby and they continue to strive for excellence through gradual and continual experience on the UK 7s curcuit. Watch out for this team, there may be stars of the future within it ranks....
